The XD is a great gun and takes our AUTHENTIC .460 Rowland Conversion very well. We need to chronograph the different barrel lengths but you will most likely see a 100ft/in reduction in muzzle velocity from a 4" barrel when compared to the 1550 ft/sec we see when firing a 85 grain bullet from a 5" barrel.

The Springfield XD and Xdm series of polymer auto-loading pistoles, and the Glock 21 and 30, are tried and true, spot-on-wonderful guns to convert to fire the Mighty .460 Rowland ACP-Magnum Cartridge. Don't forget that with the .460 Rowland conversion you can also fire the .45 ACP, the +P, and the .45 Super.

The XD Competition is a great gun and it is more accurate than it's smaller brethren, but when customers send us pictures of target patterns smaller than three inches at fifty yards, and when we can splash milk jugs (off hand) at 100 yards, using a standard 5" tactical; then I just don't see the point. Yes, she is more accurate; but with the added accuracy and range the .460 Rowland provides, we feel that most shooters just won't realize "more-targets-hit" using the XD Competition over the standard 5" tactical models, so we're just going with the standard 5" tactical.

Hello John,

The XD is a wonderful gun and takes our AUTHENTIC .460 Rowland Conversion like it was made for it. It sounds like you have set yours up very nicely. The .460 needs the compensator to cycle reliably, so save your money on the suppressor and drop in one of our Conversions and we will send it to you UPS (or by mail if you ask us to in the comments section of your order). You will have absolutely no trouble putting it in your self.

Hi Rodger. Johnny and I have discussed this very subject. He likes the XD Competition but he asks ... what's the point? When customers send us pictures of targets with hot groupings under 3" at 50 yards, and when we can explode milk Jugs, off-hand, at 100 yds with a standard or tactical length pistol converted to .460 Rowland. then... "what's the point". Spend the extra money on ammo and enjoy your tactical length Glock.460 Rowland.

Johnny in your opinion which do you think would be a better conversion. The glock 21 or the springfield xdm conpetition with the 5.25 inch barrel. I currently have a couple of glock 21sf I like the way they shoot but a have had one of the springfield tactical in 45 and I liked it also. I have been thinking about trading and getting one of the xdm competition guns anyway. Any way I know I am rambling but I know you have shot both a lot and I just would like your opinion. Thanks in advance.

I have a Springfield XD in .45 ACP. I have added night sites and a custom accurized extended barrel from Springfield's custom shop. The barrel was essentially a drop-in. I have also had the trigger adjusted to a 10 pull average of about 6 lbs. I had planned on threading the extended barrel and using a suppressor. I am interested inconverting this pistol to the .460 Rowland. Can I buy mail order for a do it myself situation? I appreciate your advice or recommendations on suppressors. I know I will likely lose the use of the aftermarket night sights. Maybe a smith can raise them or swap them out ??? I have also been advised to stay away from "wet" cans...

I am interested in the Springfield XD as well and am wondering what the ballistics out of the 4" barrel would look like after the 460 conversion?
