What to Expect for the FNX-45 Tactical Conversion Kit Process:

  • Step 1: After you place an order for your FNX-45 Tactical conversion kit, you can send us your stock barrel and slide to 460Rowland, 420 S Main St STE 204, Tulsa OK, 74103. Please be sure to include your name and order number in your package.
  • Step 2: We will rechamber, engrave and polish the chamber of your barrel as well as machine some flats in the threads. These flats will ensure the set screws on the compensator are secure and not damaging your threads, as well as provide a built-in advantage of assuring your compensator is always in the correct orientation when installing.
  • Step 3: After the barrel work is complete, we move on to polishing the breech face of the slide. This is mostly for brand new guns, it cuts back on any break in period one may experience with a factory-new slide. Even if the gun has been broken in, our polishing process is a good way to clear any obstructions and clean up the face. New gun or used gun, this polishing step for your FNX-45 tactical conversion kit assures the absence of any potential feeding issues.

PRO TIP: you can avoid sending in your slide if you are comfortable polishing your own breech face. Check out the how-to video here: .DO IT YOURSELF: POLISHING THE FNX BREECH FACE.

We will send your barrel and slide back fitted with the compensator and our upgraded recoil spring assemblies. The RED coded recoil spring assembly is 24lb and intended to be used to cycle .460 Rowland or any super-hot .45acp loads. USING THE COMPENSATOR AND RED RECOIL SPRING ASSEMBLY IS REQUIRED TO CYCLE .460 ROWLAND. To cycle regular .45 ACP, take off your compensator and swap to the YELLOW coded 11lb recoil spring assembly.

Extra Power Magazine Spring

Your kit will come with one FNX Extra Power Magazine Spring. Check out the magazine spring install video here: HOW TO INSTALL YOUR EXTRA POWER MAGAZINE SPRING

Our FNX Extra Power Magazine Spring is required to reliably cycle .460 Rowland, but can be used to reliably cycle .45 ACP as well. Being that it’s longer and stronger spring, it is not uncommon to lose 1-2 rounds of overall capacity…but hey, 13 rounds of .44 Magnum power is nothing to scoff at.

Please Note: Turnaround times vary. Email for estimated order completion date parameters. Please read the description below to learn about our Conversion Process and what your FNX is capable of!

Installing the FNX Tactical Conversion to .460 Rowland®

The Mighty .460 Rowland® ammunition delivers over three times the power of your standard .45 ACP ammunition.

So, how does your gun handle both?  And what do you need to do when shooting each?

Shooting the Mighty .460 Rowland®:

*Remove your magazine and check/double-check to ensure there is no round in the chamber.

Attach your 460 Rowland® Compensator

  • Ensure your new barrel is in its proper “locked-up” position within the slide.
  • Screw the Compensator onto the barrel until it is close to the slide, but not actually touching it. Also, do not tighten the Compensator all the way to the end of the threads.
  • A small amount of blue thread locker may be used on the screws. Be prepared to move immediately to the next step.
  • The Compensator should not actually come in contact with the slide. A small space is normal and required.
  • The large vent openings in the Compensator must open straight-up in front of the slide.
  • Install your High-Power Recoil Assembly (marked with a RED dot)

Shooting .45 ACP Ammunition:

*Remove your magazine and check/double-check to ensure there is no round in the chamber.

  • Remove your 460 Rowland® Compensator(see below if you have used thread locker)
  • Screw on your Thread Protector
  • Remove your High-Power Recoil Assembly (marked with a RED dot)
  • Install your Low-Power Recoil Assembly(marked with a YELLOW dot)

That’s all there is to it!…But we think you’ll keep your gun in .460 Rowland® most of the time!

NOTE: If you did not elect to send us your slide, you will need to polish its breech face.

This is a relatively simple, but important, part of Converting your FNX. It will assist with reliable feeding. Visit the www.460rowland.com VIDEOS page for helpful instructions.

DO IT YOURSELF: POLISHING THE FNX BREECH FACE

How to Remove your Set-Screw Secured Compensator:

  • Back out the allen-head set screws several rotations until you are certain they are not in contact with the barrel threads…gentle heat with a small propane or butane torch will loosen the screws, if necessary.
  • Using a wrench with protective padding around it, apply a firm, steady counter-clockwise pressure to unscrew the Comp from the barrel.

1 review for FNX-45 Tac Owner Barrel .460 Rowland Conversion

  1. Mike Furnier (verified owner)

I modified my FN FNX 45 tactical. I fired about 5 rounds each of 5 different types of ammo. Not a huge test, but I’m not a rich guy. In any case, it worked like a champ. The relatively low recoil for such a powerful round is amazing. I switched to the yellow spring to shoot 45 ACP and it functioned reliably. I can’t tell about accuracy yet. The FNX in normal 45 ACP with a red dot is an easy gun to shoot accurately. I did 14 rounds in a 6 inch circle with one flyer (2 inches away from the main group) standing shooting about 1 round a second. My groups with the 460 Rowland even with taking all the time I want between shots aren’t that good, but I’m not sure if it’s the gun/round or me flinching because of the recoil. I don’t have any issues shooting 10mm.
